Celebration spread across the UK’s clubland industry as The Prime Minister recently announced that all Covid entry requirements for clubs will be axed from this week, marking a considerable change from the previous plans.
The government announced that Vaccine certificates that display proof of a Covid vaccination, and negative lateral flow test results, will no longer be required for event entry from the 26th of January. The initial Covid passports were introduced to form the Government’s Plan B measures back in December with a vision to address the rising Covid cases spreading including the Omicron variant.
Full entry requirements were set for unseated indoor venues holding a capacity of 500+ people and also unseated outdoor venues that housed more than 4,000 people. The heavy restrictions were thought to impact with a devastating effect on the nightlife industry and nightclubs in particular.
Boris Johnson’s announcements also highlighted that other measures that were placed for the Plan B guidance including compulsory mask-wearing and public transport, also work from home recommendations will be scrapped.
Mounting pressure has continued as the indicators have changed, with Scotland who were in a similar control from October reported a massive 46% drop in their attendance at venues and some reaching as far as a 60% drop. Thankfully this sets the road to a resolution of full services and without restrictive limitations in time to rescue many failing venues.
Furthermore, mandatory self-isolation for those with Covid-19 is set to end mid to late March. There have already been announcements for clubs across Europe to return including Ibiza’s notable season, whilst certain other countries remain closed until further notice. Potentially by Summer and festival season, the usual global circuit will be open and we can all dance together freely if all continues along this plane.
