Denon DJ announces Prime 4+, the world’s first standalone unit to offer real-time stems

Denon DJ recently announced the upcoming release of the Prime 4+, the world’s first DJ controller to offer real-time Stems separation without needing a connected laptop. The stems update was prematurely leaked online this week.

Promised for this summer, Stems beta will be available exclusively to Prime 4+ users in the next 3 months and may come to other hardware later according to Denon.

The update allows users to separate the instruments and vocals from tracks, giving them the ability to create unique mash-ups on the fly and execute more creative transitions – again, all without connecting a laptop.

Updated June 29th: The Prime 4+ is out now, retailing at US $2199 / £2299 / €2599. For more details and the best places to buy check out our comprehensive buyer’s guide: 5 of the best all-in-one DJ systems.

What’s new on the Prime 4+?

Apart from the stems update (which won’t be compatible with the older Prime 4), here are the other three changes to the new unit:

  • New more refined look (less ‘Christmas-tree-like’ lighting and more black & dark grey parts rather than silver)
  • 10% larger jog wheel surface
  • Ability to stream music from Amazon Music (in addition to TIDAL, Beatsource, Beatport, Soundcloud GO+)

Separately, Engine DJ recently announced updates to their operating system, Engine version 3.1, which incorporates support for all of Denon’s standalone units – inclusive of the PRIME4/PRIME 4+. We break down those updates here.
