Technics unveils limited-edition SL-1200 turntable for 55th anniversary

Technics has unveiled a limited-edition version of the SL-1200, bringing gold detailing and seven colour options to its current MK7 platform ahead of the turntable series’ 55th anniversary in 2027.

The Technics SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition will be limited to 12,000 units worldwide, with a global release planned for September 2026. Each deck will carry an individually numbered anniversary badge.

The new model will be available in Gold, Blue, Red, Black, Green, White and Grey, with each colourway paired with gold detailing.

That includes a gold-finished S-shaped tonearm, gold trim around the platter and strobe markings, matching controls and tonearm base, plus a specially designed slipmat carrying a gold Technics logo. The numbered badge completes the anniversary treatment.

Underneath, the deck is based on the established SL-1200MK7 platform. It retains the coreless direct-drive motor, digital pitch control with up to ±16% adjustment, height-adjustable S-shaped tonearm and reverse playback.

For DJs, there is no major change to how the turntable actually performs. The focus of this release is the limited production run and anniversary styling rather than introducing new DJ features or hardware.

The SL-1200 has been closely associated with DJ culture for decades. The original arrived in 1972, followed by the SL-1200MK2 in 1979, whose combination of direct drive, pitch control and durable construction helped establish the series as a long-running fixture in clubs and DJ booths.

Technics previously marked the series’ 50th anniversary with the limited-edition SL-1200M7L in 2022, which was also based on the MK7 platform and offered in seven colours.

Pricing and availability

The Technics SL-1200 55th Anniversary Edition is scheduled for a global release in September 2026, with its first public showing taking place at DMC DJs Day in Warsaw on August 20.

Technics has yet to announce full regional pricing and availability. In the US, however, the anniversary edition is currently listed at US$1,599.99 per turntable through the company’s official store.
